RESEARCH CENTERS

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH CENTER FOR METAL TESTING

The Center of Metal Testing was established in 1992 as a Metal Casting laboratory. Since the settlement at the School of Mechanical Engineering, MUST in 1999 the center has been undertaking a process of teaching and research. The center conducts its scientific research on the equipment made in different countries such as the USA, Germany, Austria, England, and Denmark. Since 2000 the laboratory has become an authorized laboratory by Mongolian Agency for Standardization and Metrology to carry out testing metal wares and components nationally.

METALLURGI AND ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY  RESEARCH CENTER

Introduction

The Center for Metallurgy and Advanced Technology Research is dedicated to developing innovative technologies for producing components from mineral resources and waste raw materials, as well as creating new materials and enhancing processing technologies for industrial applications. In addition, the center focuses on research aimed at reducing the reliance on strategic metals by replacing them with more abundant and cost-effective alternatives. Our goal is to advance knowledge in the utilization of minerals, metals, and materials, contributing to the development of a sustainable future society. At this center, a diverse team of researchers, including undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students from our institution, alongside faculty members and researchers from prestigious organizations such as the National University of Mongolia, Mongolian University of Science and Technology, and the Academy of Sciences, collaborate on projects aimed at the development of new materials and cutting-edge technological innovations.

Major Activities

  • Conducting research work,
  • Organizing training,
  • Feasibility study development,
  • Training and developing skilled researchers,
  • Conducting technology evaluations.

The following research projects are currently underway in our laboratory. This includes:

  • Research on technologies for producing phases magnetite and maghemite from iron concentrates,

RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTAL CENTER FOR RESEARCH TECHNICS AND TECHNOLOGY

The center is conducting activities to execute project, contracted service of science and technology, create compact equipment of small and medium enterprises then embed them to industry for mechanizing industry and services of testing research to be perfection of technologies and work out by industrial methods and mechanizing the action to harvest sea-buckthorn. The services to create and test the research to develop technologies that work out seabuckthorn by industrial method, has been conducting since 1983, and established sea-buckthorn research laboratory in 1988 and strengthened laboratory’s materials base for received equipments and tools from financing of contracted and project works of the scientific that implemented between and 1983 to 2008. The services such as processing products and creating some equipment to be advanced technology to full develop by industrial method the sea-buckthorn, which met with special features of the weather and the nature of Mongolia, are executing in the laboratory. “Fresh sea-buckthorn oil” developed in the center, the product awarded golden medal for participated to “Seoul International Invention Fair 2010” exhibition, which organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization in Seoul city of South Korea in 2010. In this exhibition provided approximately 650 products of 36 countries of the world.

EMBEDDED SERVICES TO THE INDUSTRY

  •  Processing workshop for 170 ton sea-buckthorn in the year of Pharmacy Authority of Selenge province
  • Processing workshop for 170 ton sea-buckthorn in the year of Pharmacy Authority of Zavkhan province, in 1986
  •  Processing workshop for 50 ton sea-buckthorn in the year of the canned fruits and vegetables factory of Darkhan-Sharyn Gol
  • Processing workshop for 170 ton sea-buckthorn in the year of Bolor LLC and Ulaan tolgoi agricultural site of Uvs province, in 1992
  • Press sea-buckthorn in Uvs-Tes LLC and Us Erdene LLC of Uvs province in 2004

In 2019 with the Mongolian Government and Asian Development Bank toward the Additional Financing of the Agriculture and Rural Development Project was invested Sea buckthorn seed oil separation equipment using Carbon dioxide (CO2). The technology uses liquefied carbon dioxide gas to separate oil from seeds, and investments is 945.3 million MNT. Investments opens up opportunities for research into the technology of sea buckthorn seed oil separation under pressure, as well as the beginning of the production of products that meet international standards.

RESEARCH AND TRAINING CENTER FOR HERITAGE CONSERVATION

The research center was established in 2021 and operates with the mission of developing, localizing, and transferring cutting-edge technologies by gathering research teams and communities with the best knowledge and skills to analyze and study natural science-based cultural heritage throughout Mongolia, creating sophisticated, internationally competitive, knowledge-based national cultural innovation products, and training competent professionals who can conduct cutting-edge technology research.

The main areas of activity of the center include:

  • Organizing research, professional development, and training on the conservation and restoration of Mongolian tangible cultural heritage
  • Implementing scientific, technological, and innovative research projects funded by international, state, and business organizations, both independently and in collaboration with foreign (South Korea) and domestic organizations, as well as undertaking contractual work
  • Offering Korean language training.

RESEARCH AND TRAINING CENTER FOR HERITAGE CONSERVATION

The Aviation Training and Research Center carries out the development, design, and aerodynamic studies of all types of drones (quadcopter, hexacopter, octocopter) and unmanned aerial vehicles. It also conducts research on airflow characteristics around solid bodies. In addition, the center performs research and development of automotive, aircraft, bicycle, and household components using composite materials made of carbon and fiberglass polymer binders. The center also runs a pilot training program using a stationary simulator of the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

Main equipment of the center includes:

  1. Low-speed wind tunnel – Its main specification is a wind speed of up to 38 m/s, with a test section measuring 60x60x120 cm. All parameters are captured using digital technology.

  2. Autoclave (pressurized oven) – Its main specifications include generating 10 bar of pressure and a temperature range of 0–230°C, with a work chamber measuring 2000x1000 mm.

  3. Boeing 737 MAX Simulator – This device is a full-scale (1:1) simulator of the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, capable of simulating all in-flight parameters using digital technology to realistically depict the complex control processes of the aircraft.
